Within a few days of carrying my PT1911 the finish was removed to the bare metal in several places. It was easily the worst finish I have ever seen on any gun. I re-finished the gun with Duracoat and after 6 months of carry it has no damage to the finish.
The function has been flawless. I replaced the ambi-safety as it was too easy to accidentally bump it off safe. I replaced the white material in the sights with a flourescent orange material that makes them much easier to see.
Highly recommend the gun as a good value.

Update; Its been a while since we visited this thread. In that time I have 5 students who have purchased Taurus 1911s (plus mine).
To date 5 of them (not including mine - which has not been shot much since the initial break in) are broke. All of those 5 have problems with the lockwork (and nothing else so far).
I am sure Taurus will stand behind these but no one I have talked to is interested in repeating the experience. One is bringing one to me and I will replace the hammer and sear and see how it goes.

| standing behind the gun is nice, but having a reliable gun you can depend on is nicer. |

I have two PT 1911 Taurus .45 ACP. I carried a Colt 1911 in the Marine Corps and Viet Nam along with my M-16.
The bottom line for the PT 1911 is that the weapon performs as well or better than the highly treasured Wilson combat 45, the Kimber and all other major 1911 manfgs.
A very ignorant man posted that he was disappointed because when he went to pick up a PT 1911 that he ordered it was not more expensive. WHAT??
I have approximately 2K rnds through one of my Taurus without stoppage, malfunction or any feeding, cycling or firing issues. Taurus has now developed the plant to totally, and I mean totally manufacture all parts for their 1911. The Heinie sights are also manufactured at Taurus under strict specs from the mfg. They make each part to fit each part, not just by milspec but by the highest standaqrds of mfg in todays competitive gun market.
As a retired Marine and Law Enforcement Instructor I have first hand experience with the .45 caliber in general and the PT 1911 specifically.
My selection for handguns must meet two rigid criteria.
1. Dependability and functionality in a high stress environment.
2. Cost based on market values and manufactures specs and reputation.
The Taurus T-1911 meets those criteria, in my humble opinion as well as if not better than all other "Status" 45 makers.
My Kimber stops feeding with the slightest amount of ammo fired (25 rnds or less), my Sig-P245 is flawless but costs around 200 to 250 more than the Taurus without any "bells or whistles" like the Taurus comes with stock.
Taurus is rewriting the 1911 standard with the PT model. Is it well built with quality materials, dependable, nice looking and very cost attractive.

Sort of looks like it. So far the hammers and sears have been failing most. If they are not MIM they are soft (the slides and frames do not look or feel soft).
The parts can be changed but the firing pin safety doesnt work on most when you use 1911 parts so there is some slight dimensional difference.
This is not to say that retunring the gun to Taurus or an authorized repair station is not the anser, as they have an excellent warranty. But I am not a big fan of shipping guns these days.

I have seen too many problems with Taurus guns in general to own one let alone trust one for carry. My carry 1911 is a CZ/Dan Wesson Commander but looking at a Wilson CQB after shooting one the other day.

Millmicker, welcome to here. I was on the list at my local gun club to get the Taurus when it was new, but the list was longer than my patience. I ended up with a Springfield Champion, one of their lower-end Commander-size pistols. Same price, at the time, as the Taurus, but without any of the whistling bells. The deciding factors were: 1)It was available; 2)I had the money. Been a good gun, but had to replace the slide stop once. Been carrying it off and on at my job. Gonna have a little bigger front sight installed soon; if I'd waited for the Taurus, I wouldn't have to pay for these little adaptations, huh? I have heard of folks having problems with the Taurus, heard just as many having no problems at all. I think it's like buying a Rambler, if you get a good one it'll last forever, get a bad one and the problems never quit. Ace |

Traded the Taurus 1911 off for a Colt made in 1967 - another "illetarte" one that does not know it aint supposed to work with modern ammuntion.
In the interest of full disclosure a guy brought a Colt by the other day (also made in the 1960s) that was "literate" - worked with ball but would hang up with Winchester Ranger JHP - it took 5 minutes to make it ignorant and work.

It has been years since I have been around many 1911s but I have only ran across one Colt that would not run with HP ammo , the owner gave me his supply of Corbon ammo he had bought for it since it wouldn`t feed it. I then installed an 18 lb recoil spring and matching firing spring in his Colt enhanced Govt` model and we shot the ammo through his pistol with no issues.

| While the Taurus appears to be a decent looking copy, there have been many reports of poor customer service and support from Taurus and many complaints that standard 1911 parts will not fit (safeties, barrel bushings, etc). If your going to make another copy at least make it to the original specs! |

Good Morning All,
New member here, who has over 30 years experience in shooting/smithing the 1911.
I have everything from Wilson Combats to a Rock Island Armory Tactical. Christmas 2 years ago, I picked up the Taurus PT-1911 for my youngest son who wanted a loaded 1911. I went to the local gunstore I have bought from for years and they had the Taurus so I asked for a mat and detail stripped the gun for a look inside. It was reasonably clean without any tooling marks and all parts fit properly. I did find that most parts were MIM and decided that when my son wants me to, I will change them out with Cylinder & Slide replacements. One thing I did not like at all was the plastic grips that came on the gun, so I change them out with a set of Cocobolo I had in my parts bin. They really dressed the gun up. He loves the gun and now has over 2,000 rounds through it. He was having some problems with feeding around 1500 rounds and I found out he was shooting some reloads from a friend, that were out of spec. He bought a box of Winchester White Box and that remedied the feed problems. He has shot the gun with several different mags (i.e., Taurus Factory, Colt, Tripp, Shooting Star, Para Ordnance and Wilson 47D's) and all have worked flawlessly. This is not a carry weapon for him, but a range/home defense weapon. I do have one thing that almost made me not buy the gun.....it's finish. If you want to call it that!! I would imagine that in a few years It will be redone in some manner. |

| I guess I will put my money towards a Glock 36 instead of this one and stick to my Colt 1911s. |
