Atlanta P.D. officers may not pursue anyone per order of the Chief, effective last Friday, 3 JAN 20. They've had some bad officer involved traffic accidents where non-involved citizens have been killed by pursuing officers. The chief says she will look at other agencies, including the Georgia State Patrol's policy before deciding the next move.

“If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed;
if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may
come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

So all the bad guys have to do to escape is put the pedal to the metal every time a cruiser shows up behind them. How has that worked out in other areas where it has been tried?

We have to secure permission from a supervisor before pursuing. It hasn't worked out. By the time you get someone on the radio and they make a decision, the incident is over.

Be the person your dog thinks you are.
