Picked up a brand new Shield .40 as a backup to my SIG P229 dao .40. I carry Federal HST 180 gr hp in the SIG but the Shield refused to take more than one round in either magazine. Any thoughts?

Only thing that comes to my mind, is doublecheck that itís not a 9mm mag that somehow got in the gun?

If it helps any the last 2 weeks for me have been filled with annoyances like that, about every other day.

I second Dov. I have seen the 40's sold with 9mm mags.

Please let me add to this. In February this year, I purchased a "Blue Label" Glock 27 - and yes it came with 9mm magazines.

Try their 155 gr. flavor. Win Ranger seems to do OK as does Rem G.S. I'm a YUGE fan of HST. It has to go bang though.

Well, I think the 180 is too long. both mags are marked .40. I've got some 165 and 135 gr jhps in the work shop. I used a screw driver this A.M. and followers went all the way to the bottom

Evan, I would call S&W customer service and tell them what your problem is. I've shot .40 HST in a number of .40s without issue. There is no reason a properly functioning Shield should not shoot them easily. There is obviously a problem with either gun or mags, and S&W should certainly correct it for you.

picked up a loading tool for the .40 Shield. Better but not as it should be.

Smith is willing to replace the mags but then I have a gun and no mags. I'll shoot them on Monday and see where I'm really at.

Well, until the new mags arrive, make the first shot count. Ace

Raining today but I stopped at the range long enough and fired two magazines worth of Black Hills 165 grain with no issues. Got loading tool and they're still tough to load

I figured a short barrel .40 would like the lighter bullets. I have 185 grain in my .45 Shield
