If I recall correctly, the pistol does not have a firing pin block.
Unlike the newer pistols made today.

I pretty much found that any pistol that would feed ball would feed that Remington 115 JHP.

OTOH, I shot a woodchuck 5 times with that bullet from a Super .38 at around 1500 fps and none of them opened up (It did kill him - one of them hit the spine) - perhaps they changed them however over the years - that was around 1975 or so.

You say "old fashioned" like that is a bad thing

There aren't many plastic pistols that light my fire (not to say they are inadequate at all)...let me count... oh well there are no plastic pistols that light my fire

Naturally I own a few...I had to find out.

There's a 39-2 on Virginia Armslist today: "great condition", 2 mags and a holster, $395

Today I'll go into a gun shop and walk right past the rows and rows of "latest and greatest" to check out the used display for a golden oldie. I have a thing for blue steel and walnut. It doesn't have to be pristine. Honest wear means the gun probably worked long and well for a previous owner. Great shooting "veteran" guns have their own level of appeal.

I'm the same way about antique guns. That Colt, S&W, or Winchester with the pristine finish and the sky high price tag never done nothin'. The old beater next to it? I wish that one could talk.

The "firing pin block" on a 39-2, is more along the lines of a hammer block safety that should be disengaged during the drAw stroke", at least that's how we did it in the olden days.

Yes, it's called a " hammer drop safety" back in the day by S&W.

I am constantly "patrolling" the internet for a couple more spare magazines for my S&W 39-2. A site on EBay says their "like new" magazines will only work in the Model 39, not the 39-2 or any other S&W pistol. I appear to be dealing with a pawn shop; so, they may be listening to another "expert" who happened to be standing there when the ad was put up. Everything I've read and seen in person says the magazines should work in either the model 39 and 39-2. Were there any changes made to the Model 39-2 that would affect the magazine or its retention system?

I have 3 used 39-2 magazines for sale or trade.

I'm not sure we're supposed to trade here, let me know if you're interested
