Do you think it would be a good idea to keep a running list of abbreviations and acronyms used in the forum? The list would be most helpful if it was in alphabetical order.
When I first began reading posts, I had no idea what many of the abbreviations and acronyms meant.
Here are just some that I've seen in this forum:
BHP-Browning Hi Power BG-Bad Guy BUG-Back Up Gun CCW-Carry Concealed Weapon DA-Double Action DAO-Double Action Only EFMJ-Expanding Full Metal Jacket Fed-Federal GD-Gold Dot GS-Golden Saber LE-Law Enforcement Gr-Grains JHP-Jacketed Hollow Point Mag-Magazine or Magnum? OSS-One Shot Stop Rem-Remington SA-Single Action S&W-Smith and Wesson Snub-Short Barreled Gun SWC-Semi Wad Cutter |

One of the very first threads in the Q&A section contains such a list.
Maybe it might be a good idea to make it "sticky" at the top of the section and have it be updateable somehow? |

| If it does not occupy too much space, it could be a closed sticky at the top of miscellaneous, and added to by a modrator. |

Or the one I am most familiar with, FTTC (Failure To Type Correctly),
which I usually identify right after I hit the Post New Reply button.

It seems like there is interest in the idea of keeping a list of abbreviations/acronyms. And there sure seem like there are a lot of them.
Instead of everyone posting the ones they think of, and having a sticky that ends up being who knows how many posts long, is it possible to have ONE sticky post that is updated in alphabetical order as people send in their suggestions?
If it is possible, and if people are for the idea, the next question is who will do it. Is the task something that one of the fine people running this forum should do or want to do? If not, and a volunteer is needed, I'll give it a try (see what happens when we suggest things!!).
How long can ONE post be? Over time, that one post could get quite large? I'm not knowledgeable about the technology of the forum, and I'm wondering if for example a 300, 500, 1000 or whatever length line post will "fit" and be accessable to readers. |

| I also thought that this topic came up before (possibly on the old board) and it was in the Misc or Q+A section. |

| There is a thread in the Q&A section that covers those abreviations. It's one of the very first of the section. |

| Don't forget the ever popular FUBAR. I won't spell that one out, but around her we use it to describe those drivers of automobiles that tangle with moving trains. Nuff said. |

Evan, Matt... could something like this be done with a search function in the forum?
I think it's a great idea. Most of us know the old abbreviations, but there are always new terms popping up. That's the job of many overpaid advertising execs - to come up with new terms for the SOS & keep us in awe of the "new" stuff.
I'd be more than willing to help on this.
