I just noticed in Shotgun News that Gun Crafters is offering a new upper for Glock 20/21 pistols in .50 Caliber. Gun Crafters has offered a .50 1911, for some time now. I presume that the magazines will have to be modified to handle the fatter .50 caliber rounds.
Calling Jim H.. Your thoughts about .50 caliber versus your .44, .45, etc rounds.

I'm not Jim H though I did play him in Swan Lake once.
Why trade a caliber that you can even get in hardware stores and even some rural gas stations for a round that leaves you at the mercy of one source?
Beside the cost is astrnomical, quality unproven, and supply problimatical AND the person shot will never know the difference.
I carry a 9MM and worry more about getting hit by a UFO than whether or not it will suffice as long as I pay attention to the front sight. |

But the .50GI is a proven anti-UFO round Evan! Todd |

| I spent six weeks next door to Area 51 at the Nevada Test Site and actually saw alot of interesting things in the sky at night. I tell people I belive in CFO's not UFO's. CFO's? Classified Flying Objects. |

A few years ago I had a chance to read an old magazine article about people claiming to see UFOs in the sky. The article had some artist's renderings in it. I had to suppress a snicker when I noticed how closely the outlines resembled the current F117 and a B2. |

| Space/UFO trivia: Colonel Joe Kittinger was mistaken as the "alien" in the desert that fell from the skys after a nearly 100,000 ft altitude jump from a balloon in the pre-space flight years. He is alive and well in Orlando, FL and is still flying. |

We shot the modified Glock in Memphis last week, ammo and gun provided by Alex Zimmerman, Guncrafters. The .50GI seems to be quite accurate and kicks no more than .45 +P or 'real' 10mm.
In the 1911 package, it's very accurate. Zimmerman had a few .45 1911s there too -- again wildly accurate. His 1911s are aces.
It seems that the .50 is for those who think that .45 is the best and the only thing that could be better is bigger.

Its no secret that I think in similar design bullets and velocities that caliber gains a little edge (it will not make up for sloppy shooting and it will not show up in a statistically significant way across the board - because most people stop fighting in the first couple of seconds because they decide to, not because they physically have to).
So do I think a .50 might have a slight edge over a .45 or .44 (expecially one that is designed to be controllable like th .50 G.I.)...yeah.
Does it offer enough advantage to counter the availablility of ammo and magazines for a .45 ACP...not yet. When the guns are $500 and the magazines are $25 and the rounds are 50 cents apiece and available at Wal-mart I might consider it.
I have no doubt the .50 Beowulf is a superior stopper to a .223 or a 6.8 SPC at close range (to a small degree). I have shot one enough to know it actually works in an M4....do I own one.... NO!
Besides, This week I am carrying a nifty 3" Python as a backup to my usual .45 Auto...Doc would know why

| I think the military has all sorts of things we don't know about. I am convinced the SR71 went way faster then they ever admitted. |
