we lost one SWAT cop from LAPD and multiple officers in Mo.

Will get a detailed report on the LAPD shoot after this weekend.

The key is simply this-there are only two kinds of law enforcement agencies-those that have had officers killed and those that WILL have officers killed. There is no safe place to be in LE.

No traffic stop is ever routine and the same goes for other calls too if you let your guard down and become complacent then your dead. Those old guys at the Academy know their stuff so constantly practice the things they taught you.

I worked in a suburb of Birmingham, AL and started carrying off-duty the day I first qualified. That was several weeks before I reported to the academy. I couldn't even afford an off-duty holster for my service revolver. After I ended up in investigations, I'd sometimes relent on Sunday's when I actually was going into church - guns bugged my first wife. Then one Sunday I came out and looked over at the parking lot. A marked car was working an attempted stolen car report right next to where my unmarked detective car was parked; my Glock 17 was of course....under the seat. The stolen car had stalled halfway into Shades Crest Road. I got to thinking, "What if I'd gone out after Sunday school to get my notebook, etc. and had walked up on them inside my car with my gun? From then on, I didn't go anywhere without my service pistol and/or a backup Colt Agent. My chief made fun of me for several years until he was on an official conference trip with his wife and went into a service station. Once inside he realized he was in the middle of a robbery set-up. His pistol, of course, was in the car with his wife. He slipped out a side door and headed back to his unmarked police car to retrieve his handgun. Mrs. Chief had recognized what was happening before him and locked the car doors. After that, Chief "kinda got up off of me" about wearing a gun everywhere I went.

Like the concealed carry experts say,"When seconds count, the cops are only minutes away." It is worse than embarrassing to know that, be the "subject matter expert," and still not come prepared to defend your life.

“If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed;
if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may
come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”

Winston Churchill
