Hemi, I believe Safariland has a retention holster for the M&P. It's not on the website but you can call them. I have also seen posts on the M&P forum stating the same as Evan that the Glock 20 holsters will work if you snug down the tension screws.

BlackHawk SERPA fits - it is now labled for both Glock & M&P (and something else but I threw away the box).

Jim, how did you like the SERPA holster? I have read concerns that sand in the locking mechanism can renender it non-functional. I have absolutely not a clue as to the veracity of said claim.

Thank you

I have one of the Large Glock brand plastic belt slides & it fits the M&P 45 like a champ.

Good shooting!

Nukem;

I had that (and have) that same concern but we are now sending soldier over with these (about 25% in the last class). I have not heard of any actual problems yet (and I have asked).

I like the Don Hume holsters and have a couple for the Sig P229. My S&W MP40 does NOT fit into this holster. It will not go all the way in, leaving the trigger fully exposed. I bought a Don Hume IWB made for the S&W full-size MP and it fits beautifully.

I like my Serpas alot, I use both the duty and plain clothes versions for my Glocks.

I've heard those claims before, but then many holsters can be jammed by sand or dirt, the locking hood on the Safariland holsters comes to mind.

I've worn my holster (with a dummy gun) and rolled around in a playground sand box. No problems. I did manage, on one of three attempts, to get it to have a 'stoppage' by pouring sand into the mechanism and then laying on my side and grinding into the sand as though I were in a ground fight.
My immediate action was to hit the holster with my fist and then it drew just fine.

I do not have personal experience with the Serpa holster but Louis Awerbuck (April 4,5,6 2008) mentioned that the failure of the lock renders the gun unobtainable without a hacksaw. The lock holds the gun IN the holster.

We haven't had any difficulties either; my Serpa did me fine through an extended trip through Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan and Israel - with multiple rotary wing movements (lots of dust and blowing sand) in each location.

I have heard of these failures from people I trust, but I've also been told (though I don't know how to verify) that Blackhawk redesigned the mechanism so that if it gets stuck, it gets stuck in the "open" position so you can still draw your pistol...

Regards,

Kevin

More good news: S&W has several rebate programs going for cash back or free magazines with the purchase of an M&P pistol.
